How to use this PF calculator
Start with the monthly basic salary plus DA. For many Indian salary structures, that is the amount used for PF. If your company caps PF at the statutory wage ceiling, keep the ceiling option on. If your company contributes on full basic plus DA, switch it off.
The result separates the employee deduction from the employer contribution. It also shows the EPS split because employees often ask why the employer PF number on the salary slip does not look like a simple 12% deposit into EPF.
What payroll teams should check
- Whether PF applies to the employee and establishment.
- Whether the employee and employer contribution is capped at ₹15,000 or calculated on actual basic plus DA.
- How EPS eligibility, exits, transfers, and UAN details are handled in the payroll month.
- Whether salary revisions changed the PF wage base mid-month.
- Whether the ECR, payslip, and accounting entry match the approved payroll register.
Why teams use EasyHR for PF and payroll
PF mistakes usually start in small spreadsheets: one sheet for attendance, one for salary changes, another for joiners and exits. EasyHR keeps those inputs connected to payroll, so HR teams can run deductions, salary slips, and statutory reports with fewer manual checks.
PF calculator FAQs
How is PF calculated in India? +
PF is usually calculated on basic salary plus dearness allowance. The standard employee contribution is 12%. The employer also contributes 12%, split between EPF and EPS, subject to rules and wage ceiling choices.
Is PF calculated on gross salary or basic salary? +
PF is generally calculated on basic salary plus DA, not the full gross salary. Allowances such as HRA and conveyance are normally outside the PF wage base unless your structure or applicable rules require a different treatment.
What is the PF wage ceiling? +
The commonly used statutory wage ceiling is ₹15,000 per month. Some employers cap PF on this amount, while others contribute on actual basic plus DA as a policy decision.
What is the EPS split in employer PF? +
Out of the employer contribution, 8.33% goes to EPS up to the eligible wage ceiling, with the balance going to EPF. The calculator shows the split so payroll teams can explain the salary slip more clearly.
Can EasyHR calculate PF automatically? +
EasyHR payroll can manage PF deductions, salary slips, employee records, attendance inputs, leave data, and statutory reports so HR teams do not have to maintain separate PF spreadsheets.
