What’s different about running HR in Pune
Pune sits in Maharashtra, which means the statutory baseline is the same as Mumbai. The day-to-day HR workload, though, looks different.
Most companies here run across more than one location. A typical 200-person Pune business has its main office in Hinjewadi (Phase 1, 2, or 3), Kharadi, or Magarpatta, with a manufacturing facility out at Pimpri-Chinchwad, Chakan, or Talegaon, and possibly a smaller team in Baner, Aundh, or Viman Nagar. The campus shuttle reality is more central here than in any other Indian city. Hinjewadi alone moves several lakh employees a day in and out via company buses. The attendance system needs to handle the case where someone marks attendance at the bus pickup point in Wakad, then the office geofence kicks in 40 minutes later. Most attendance products treat that as a contradiction.
Pune’s workforce also splits cleanly into two cultures. The IT side (Hinjewadi, Kharadi, Magarpatta) wants a Slack-grade interface and a fast mobile app. The auto and manufacturing side (Chakan, Ranjangaon, Talegaon) wants reliable biometric integration and shift-based attendance that handles three rotating shifts cleanly. The HR system has to do both without making either side feel like an afterthought.

EasyHR deducts the right amount each month, handles the gender-based slab difference, and generates Form III-B for the monthly return and the half-yearly Form V. Penalty-interest tracking too (1.25% per month for employees, 2% for employers), so finance gets a warning before a missed remittance becomes a notice.
Shops & Establishments Act 2017 (with the 2025 amendments)
The attendance and leave engine enforces the parts that matter day to day:
- 9-hour daily and 48-hour weekly limits on work
- A 30-minute break required after 5 continuous hours
- A 10.5-hour cap on the total spread of a working day
- Overtime capped at 125 hours per quarter
- 24 consecutive hours of weekly off
- 8 days of casual leave per year (lapses if unused)
- 1 day of earned leave for every 20 days worked, once the employee has crossed 240 days of service
Overtime that’s about to breach the quarterly cap, employees nearing the 10.5-hour daily spread, missed weekly offs all surface as warnings, not as audit findings six months later.
A few other Maharashtra-specific things
Labour Welfare Fund contributions (₹6 employee, ₹18 employer) go out twice a year in June and December. Maternity benefits are tracked at the 26-week entitlement, anchored to the right start date. Pune Municipal Corporation and PCMC public holidays are pre-loaded for each calendar year.
