**What is **Competency ?

Competences came to mean knowledge, skill, ability, and behavior in using the mind to perform specific functions or roles. They now cover categories such as technical, managerial, and behavioral competencies. Competency frameworks define the expectations for a given role in organizations, performance evaluations, training needs assessment, and career development. The relevance of performance competency model was to ensure that the goals were achieved in very little time and to enhance organizational efficiency. In establishing a cohesive workforce, the concept serves a balanced purpose toward attaining organizational success.
